SAARC is an economic organization of eight countries of southern Asia. Its seven founding members are India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. In April, 2007, Afghanistan has become its 8th member.
Record of SAARC in promoting regional integration has been disappointing and SAARC summits held from time to time, thirteen times in its life span of twenty one years have proved to be merely talk shops.
